Bridget Slotemaker passed away on August 12, 2008 after her short but very courageous battle with cancer. Bridget graduated from Boston College in 1995 and was only 35 years young at the time of her passing. She was a wonderful wife, beautiful mother of two girls; Grace and Chloe, and a dear and special friend to everyone that knew her. Sadly, Bridget was diagnosed with Stage IV cancer in May 2008 when she was 20 weeks pregnant with her second child. She had a very aggressive form of cancer, which she fought courageously. During Bridget's illness, she successfully delivered her second daughter, Chloe Faith, prematurely. Chloe was born weighing 1 lb 2oz. Unfortunately, Bridget lost the ultimate battle with cancer in August of 2008 leaving behind her loving husband and family, two daughters, and many dear friends. Today, Chloe is one year old and doing great and her oldest daughter, Grace, is nearing four years old. As a result of Bridget's diagnosis and ultimate passing, it has made many stop to reflect on the importance of life and how we can work collectively to help raise awareness towards cancer research. To that end, Up My Sleeve is pleased to participate in this second annual fundraiser for Bridget in Boston, "An Evening for Bridget" to celebrate Bridget's life and raise monies for Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Dr. Ann Partridge's program, Young and Strong. Dr. Partridge is a remarkable woman and incredibly committed to the fight against cancer, especially for women 40 and younger. Dr. Partridge founded this care program because little is known about breast cancer in young women yet it is the second leading cause of cancer-related death in women. Nearly 700 young women have been enrolled in the program to date. In addition to the clinical research components, this program also serves as an incredible support resource for patients and their families.
